From the Sampson era right through to the current Crean regime, Hoosiers have led the B1G Conference in cheating. Indiana Coach Kelvin Sampson had to be thrown out of college basketball because he couldn't be trusted NOT TO CHEAT. What the Hoosiers did after that was to replace the cheatingest coach in the conference with the cheatingest coach in the conference. Tom Crean has already racked up a bundle of recruiting violations, including, but not limited to, the following:
• From ESPN again back on October 11, 2011,
"Indiana has self-reported a secondary NCAA rules violation by the men's basketball staff involving blue-chip recruit Gary Harris, according to multiple sources. The school acknowledged to ESPN.com that coach Tom Crean committed the violation while recruiting an unnamed student-athlete in Indianapolis last week. In a statement released Tuesday, the school said, 'Coach Crean immediately reported an inadvertent recruiting contact violation to our compliance office, and we are following our normal procedures.'"
• Back on February 25, 2009, there was notice of yet another violation, this one actually involving illegal telephone calls! Here is what was reported at the time:
"According to the report, when assistant coach Roshown McLeod left a voice mail for Muniru on Oct. 25, it was the school’s third call to him in a week — exceeding the NCAA limit by one. Coach Tom Crean, who normally makes one call per week to recruits, placed two to Muniru — the Sunday and Wednesday before McLeod’s call on a Saturday. The report said Crean 'simply made a mistake,' thinking his Sunday call had counted against the previous week’s allotment. The athletic department’s compliance department discovered the violation."
